ⓘ OXBRIDGE Oxbridge désigne conjointement les universités d'Oxford et de Cambridge, les plus anciennes et les plus prestigieuses d'Angleterre. Le terme est généralement employé pour les différencier des universités de création plus récente. Oxford et Cambridge se distinguent encore des autres établissements d'enseignement supérieur, notamment de par leur structure collégiale et leurs conditions d'admission très rigoureuses. De nos jours, Oxbridge est toujours synonyme d'élitisme en dépit des efforts entrepris pour élargir le recrutement des deux universités. Jusqu'à une époque très récente, un diplôme d'Oxbridge était considéré comme indispensable pour accéder à des postes importants dans le monde de la politique ou de la diplomatie.
